Alabama vs Auburn

No. 1 Alabama hosts Auburn in the annual Iron Bowl college football 2018 game at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on Saturday.

Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. Central, 3:30 p.m. Eastern, with the game to be broadcast live on CBS. Alabama is a 24-point favorite, according to Vegas Insider.

The top-ranked Crimson Tide heads into Saturday’s regular season finale against rival Auburn still chasing Southeastern Conference and national titles. An unblemished record remains in play, too, though that’s been even harder to obtain.

“Coach Saban voices that to us that he’s had only one undefeated team around here and he’s had how many championships,” Tide center Ross Pierschbacher said Monday. “It’s possible to lose one and still win a championship but he just wants us to not have that bump in the road, to still be able realize what we have in front of us.

“We don’t have to lose a game to kind of wake up. We should always be ready.”

Maybe that wakeup call came with a 10-10 halftime score against The Citadel , an FCS team. Alabama (11-0, 7-0 SEC) wound up running away with it, 50-17, but not without uneasy moments that included fumbling the second-half kickoff.

The Tide is a 24-1/2-point favorite against the Tigers (7-4, 3-4). But Auburn spoiled ‘Bama’s bid for a perfect season a year ago, winning 26-14 to claim a spot in the SEC title game.

Alabama has already locked down a matchup with No. 5 Georgia in Atlanta this time.

Saban has led the Tide to five national championships over the last nine seasons, but only one perfect record, in 2009. Alabama hasn’t needed to be win them all, having twice captured national titles after failing to win the SEC West, including last season.

Winning the national championship helped lessen the sting of losing the West plus state braggin’ rights, but not remove it altogether.

“I think the players all know what happened last year,” Saban said. “I think they don’t feel great about it. They didn’t feel good about last year. They’ve had to live with it for 365 days.

“I don’t necessarily think that the revenge factor is the best form of motivation out there, but I think it certainly plays into a guy that’s a good competitor who wants to come back and do well if he didn’t perform well the last time he played someone.”

Alabama doesn’t necessarily have to beat both Auburn and Georgia to make the playoffs after dominating virtually every game, though the Tide would like to avoid leaving its fate in doubt again.

Also, for a team that’s gone 136-14 over the past 10-plus seasons, going unbeaten would be one way to stand out in the Saban era.

The 2009 team won the first national title under Saban in Tuscaloosa and went 14-0, but had more close calls than this group. That included a 26-21 win over Auburn.

The Tide scored the final 13 points and capped a 15-play drive with Greg McElroy’s 4-yard touchdown pass to Roy Upchurch with 1:24 left.

Perfection may not be easy, and neither is winning the Iron Bowl.

“That’s always the goal, to win every game,” Pierschbacher said. “For me to go out my senior year, I think that would be something pretty special, to go 15-0.”

Notes: Tailback Damien Harris has made “really good progress” since sustaining a mild concussion on a 73-yard run in the fourth quarter against The Citadel, Saban said. He’s still going through concussion protocol before being cleared to practice. … Leading tackler Dylan Moses is one of five finalists for the Butkus Award given to the nation’s top linebacker.

Georgia vs Georgia Tech

The Georgia Bulldogs and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will renew their rivalry Saturday at noon ET in Athens. The No. 5 Bulldogs enter Saturday’s showdown as 17-point home favorites, while the total is 59.5 in the latest Georgia vs. Georgia Tech odds. The 10-1 Bulldogs likely need a victory this week and a win over Alabama in the SEC Championship Game to earn another berth in the College Football Playoff. Meanwhile, Georgia Tech (7-4) is looking to play spoiler and end its regular season on a high note. Before you make any Georgia vs. Georgia Tech picks and predictions, you’ll want to listen to what SportsLine college football expert Emory Hunt has to say.

Hunt is the founder and CEO of Football Gameplan, which has been supplying analysis of all levels of football since 2007. The former running back joined SportsLine in 2016 and has provided his followers with winning seasons in college and pro football.

Hunt is having another solid season with his point-spread picks for SportsLine members, and he has been especially zeroed in on his selections involving Georgia Tech. Over the past two seasons, Hunt is an impressive 5-1 on against-the-spread picks for or against the Yellow Jackets. Anyone who has followed him is way up.

Georgia vs Georgia Tech Football Free Signup Tv

Now, Hunt has studied Georgia vs. Georgia Tech from every possible angle and released a strong point-spread selection that is only available at SportsLine.

Hunt knows that Paul Johnson’s old-school triple-option attack will make Georgia Tech an extremely tough matchup for the Bulldogs. The Yellow Jackets have two outright victories as underdogs over Georgia in their past five meetings and have lost by a touchdown or less in two other games. Given that this year’s squad boasts a dominant ground game that is averaging over 350 yards, plus an improving defense, it’s easy to see how Saturday’s matchup could be tighter than oddsmakers predict.

But just because Georgia Tech can run the ball doesn’t mean it will keep it within the spread.

Georgia demolished Georgia Tech by 31 points last season. The key to that victory was extending the lead to two scores as early as possible and making Georgia Tech play from behind.

Last year, Georgia outrushed the Yellow Jackets 247 to 188. Considering the Bulldogs again have a plethora of talent at the running back position, they might once again control the time of possession and keep Georgia Tech’s offense on the sideline.

We can tell you Hunt is leaning toward the over, but his much stronger pick is on the side. He has carefully analyzed this matchup and identified the critical x-factor that makes one side of the spread a must-back. You absolutely need to see it before you lock in your own picks.

Who covers Georgia Tech vs. Georgia? And what critical x-factor causes one side of the spread to hit hard? Visit SportsLine right now to see which side you need to jump all over Saturday, all from a seasoned expert who’s 5-1 on his picks involving the Yellow Jackets, and find out.

Ohio State vs Michigan

Michigan and Ohio State will continue one of college football’s biggest rivalries this weekend with major implications heading into this year’s game.

Saturday’s matchup will decide the Big Ten East Division champion and play a major factor into the College Football Playoff rankings. The Wolverines currently hold the final playoff spot and the Buckeyes ranked No. 10 overall, but could make a jump in the poll with a win on Saturday and an additional victory in the Big Ten Championship Game the following week.

Ohio State was favored in 51 consecutive game, which was the longest active streak in college football, dating back to the 2015 College Football Playoff championship.

However, Michigan opened as 3.5-point favorites and the spread has since which has since grown to 5.0. The Buckeyes have won 13 of their past 14 games against Wolverines, as well as every game played between the two teams in Columbus since 2000.

Michigan vs Ohio State Football Free Signup Game

But this year’s Michigan team is different having won convincingly in every game since its Week 1 loss at Notre Dame, while Ohio State continues to deal with off-field distractions, as well as having already suffering an upset loss at Purdue.

The Wolverines are aware that they’re favored and feel confident heading into this year’s matchup.

“Yeah, I do,” Michigan running back Karan Higdon said when asked if he expected to win this year’s matchup. “That’s how I feel. I believe firmly in my brothers, this team and this coaching staff. As a captain, I’ll take that stand.”

Higdon’s promise drew comparisons to his head coach, Jim Harbaugh, who famously guaranteed a victory at Ohio State when he was a starting quarterback for the Wolverines in 1986.

“I don’t think about that,” Harbaugh said Monday. “It’s been a long time since. There’s not much to say about that. I can’t remember what it was or what it was that really made me say that or do that.”

This should be the year that Harbaugh finally beats Ohio State as a head coach. Michigan is the better football team and looks poised to make a College Football Playoff appearance. This is the most talented team of his short tenure and the one in which the expectations should be met. Expect a typical late-November Big Ten football game with lots of running plays and punts before a few late scores.

With France set to face Fiji this Saturday at the Stade de France, Simon posted a message on Twitter to announce how the FFR plans on supporting former British and Irish Lions captain Thomas in a move that has been widely applauded.

England’s Pool is particularly tricky having been drawn in C with Argentina and France. It means one of rugby’s ‘big ‘fish’ will suffer the ignominy of going home early.Rugby fans have been enjoying another epic series of battles as the biggest teams from the northern and southern hemispheres go head-to-head in preparation for next year’s Rugby World Cup.

Matches will run for four consecutive weeks over the month of November with a final fixture, Barbarians vs Argentina, taking place on December 1.England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France, Japan and Italy make up the northern hemisphere teams with New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, Fiji, Georgia, Tonga and Argentina all heading on the road.

game TV coverage in the UK and Ireland will come via the following broadcasters: BBC, Channel 4, Sky Sports and Premier Sports. When the Bernard Foley-inspired Wallabies cut through England at Twickenham to leave its Rugby World Cup dreams in ruins in 2015, few could have imagined they’d go winless in the next five matches against their biggest rival in the northern hemisphere.

England’s winning spree against Australia has come under the stewardship of Eddie Jones, the former Wallabies coach and an ex-teammate of current Australia coach Michael Cheika at Sydney club Randwick.

The relationship between Jones and Cheika has been a much-scrutinized subplot in matches over the last three years, but the big question this time round is whether Australia can end its testing year on a high.

The Australians beat Italy 26-7 last week, but it was only their fourth win in 12 tests in 2018 and the performance failed to mask issues that still affect a team that has slipped to No. 7 in the rugby rankings — Australia’s lowest ever position.

Unlike with Cheika, the pressure has eased somewhat on Jones as England looks for a third win of the month after a narrow victory over South Africa, just as tight a loss to New Zealand, and a second-half fightback against Japan.
The teams have faced each other on nine occasions in more than half a century, most recently four years ago which saw a convincing French victory of 40-15 over John McKee’s outfit in Marseille.McKee, who spent two years coaching Clermont from 2000, said it would be a significant feat to achieve.

Joe Schmidt has made 14 changes to the Ireland team that beat the All Blacks for this Saturday’s game against the United States.

Only Garry Ringrose – who missed the win over Argentina – has retained his place. Cian Healy and Josh Van Der Flier are on the bench, while Joey Carbery and John Cooney start as the half-backs.

As was to be expected, Joe Schmidt has made a whole host of changes after last weekend’s defeat of the All Blacks. With Garry Ringrose the only starting player from that match resuming his place in the Ireland team for the visit of the USA, here is the team in full.Only a week after one of Irish rugby’s finest hours, it’s time for Joe Schmidt’s men to go again; this time it will be the USA visiting Dublin’s Aviva Stadium. With a greater chance to see some of our lesser-spotted international talent on display, here is all you need to know about where to game Ireland vs USA this weekend?
John Cooney and Darren Sweetnam have been included in the Ireland team to face USA on Saturday (kick-off 6.30pm), and both are conscious of seizing their opportunities with both hands.

Joe Schmidt has made 14 changes from the side that beat the All Blacks, as he gives a chance to those not involved in last weekend’s heroics.

With the World Cup looming on the horizon, the competition for seats on the plane to Japan intensifies. Those selected for Saturday’s encounter at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin know this is a golden opportunity.

“Obviously, these opportunities don’t come around too often,” said Munster winger Sweetnam, who is in line for this third cap. “The last time I put on an Ireland jersey was nearly over a year ago. It’s a massive opportunity and I’m really looking forward to it.

“There’s so much competition which is a great thing going forward into a World Cup year. There are so few opportunities [for me], that I need to make the most of it when it comes around.”

“We’ll try and make it (the World Cup squad selection) as difficult for Joe as we can.”
Sweetnam

“It’s good to be back in with Joe, I was in the summer so, it’s just getting up to date with all the plays and stuff like that and just fitting into the team. Just doing my basics; passing, kicking well and if opportunities open up that’s exactly what I need.”

Schmidt remains coy on Ireland future

Schmidt himself made it clear that it was always his intention to rotate the squad this month.

“There’s some tired lads from last week, and it was always part of the plan,” explained the Kiwi head coach. “The two games that book-ended this particular series (against Italy and USA) gave us an opportunity to broaden the squad.

“We had 43 players in total and we wanted to make sure that we got a look at all 43 players at some stage. And that we gave them all opportunity. It’s fantastic that they’ve taken that opportunity in the main, they’ve taken responsibility for really positive preparation and hopefully we can finish this bracket of four games on a positive note on Saturday.”

South Africa vs Wales

Wales’ out-of-window Test match against South Africa in Washington on Saturday should not be taking place, says Premiership Rugby boss Mark McCafferty.

No English-based Welsh players have been released, with McCafferty saying it places an “unnecessary burden” on the clubs and players involved.

Under World Rugby rules, clubs are obliged to release players for games that fall in designated Test windows.

“We’re not sure why World Rugby authorises these matches,” he said.

“It’s just messy. Defined international windows are there, and that’s when the matches should occur.”

The rules do not apply for games on the first weekend of June this year, and Premiership Rugby policy means Bath lock Luke Charteris, prop Tomas Francis of Exeter, and Worcester wing Josh Adams have all been withdrawn from the Wales squad.

McCafferty has called for the clubs to have a stronger voice in the decision-making process to avoid such situations in the future.

“We are getting into all kinds of scraps around players being released for extra Tests in June, much of which we think would be avoidable if there was a proper body under the auspices of World Rugby that involved the clubs to look at these things, and say which matches are being authorised outside the window and on what basis,” McCafferty added.

“World Rugby is still seemingly reluctant to involve the clubs from England and France as major stakeholders in the game.

“A lot of these spats could be avoided with a more co-ordinated approach. We are having a renewed push on that.

“You shouldn’t be authorising matches outside Test windows and then expecting players to be released.”

“Gregor Townsend is once again rotating players – not one man has started all four November Tests – and the big talking point is the selection of Adam Hastings at fly-half with Finn Russell at inside centre.

“It might be the way forward and it certainly screams potential for attack, but Scotland also have to show that they can, when required, marry that entertaining style with a cold and clinical edge. For a lot of supporters, winning is the greatest entertainment of all.”

The scandal, which only came to light on the eve of the final Quilter International of the November test window, gets even more bizarre after it was revealed that one of the women among those brought back by the pair was Ashley-Cooper’s sister-in-law.

It’s understood that the pair brought a group of three women – Ashley-Cooper’s sister-in-law and two of her friends – back to the team hotel in Newport in the hours after the 9-6 defeat against Australia on 10 November in Cardiff. The three women left the hotel by 10:30pm that night, but the team’s rules state that no guests are allowed at any time and after senior players including captain Michael Hooper, David Pococl, Allan Alaalatoa, Samu Kervi and Nick Phipps escalated it to Cheika, a decision was taken to ban them from selection for one Test.

Cheika only discovered the breach of protocol on the Monday of this week, when other senior players approached him after deeming their actions unacceptable given it went against their own rules.
